“Let me sit here on the threshold of two worlds. Lost in the eloquence of Silence.”
~ Rumi
Silence is often thought of as the absence of sound, a kind of barely tolerable void, longed for only when the chaotic noise of the world becomes too much. Silence is often found to be uncomfortable, preferencing clever articulation over the desperate inward search for just the right words to say.
But to the mystic, silence is a companion presence—a living, creative experience of the heart that renews, restores, and capacitizes one to be with the internal and external world with loving equanimity and deep presence.
Inspired by Robert Sardello’s brilliant book by the same title, “Silence: The Mystery of Wholeness” in this series, we will delve deeply into the subtleties of silence, exploring the phenomenon as a source of wholeness and revitalization, awakening us to the inner currents of spirituality that ultimately lead to a path of universal compassion, service, and healing.
“In the Dagaara language there is a word, “yielbongura”, that is quickly and inaccurately translated into English as “mystery.” This word more accurately should be translated as ‘that thing which your knowledge cannot eat’.”
~ Malidoma Somé
In this age of information, knowledge is king. To know is to have power and control. As the golden child of the scientific world view, knowledge, along with its acquisition, has developed for itself a cult like following where all right and perfect ways of perceiving the universe lie within its walls. But of course walls have cracks. Bayo Akomolafe encourages us to “Pay attention also to the Spirits of the Faultline.” – that our familiar structures are imperfect by design and that there is an aliveness and a wisdom in the unknown or even unknowable spaces in between them.
Join us as we discover together that Mystery is not an enemy to be conquered but a font of rebirth and renewal. Gifted with new eyes, new ears, and new hearts, we behold Love’s Universe as it knows itself to be and discover ourselves newly as its evolutionary co-creators within and as the sacredness of its Mystery.
In a climate of great uncertainty, polarity of thinking and a crying out for healing on a global scale, our Sunday Experience offers the inspiring message that the fundamental nature of the Universe and all beings is Goodness and Love.
“Love is the energizing elixir of the Universe – the cause and effect of all Harmony”
~ Rumi
